Set form appearance per device Praxis Desk

Patients fill out forms on a desktop, tablet, or phone. A long label that fits well on desktop often wraps on a phone. That's why you set layout and texts separately for each device.

Prerequisites

Required license

This feature requires the Forms add-on for Praxis and Desk.

  • A form that you edit in the form editor.

How to do it

Switch devices

The Gerät (Device) switch offers Desktop, Tablet, and Handy (Phone). You find it in three places:

  • in the toolbar above the form area
  • in the Design tab
  • in the Inhalt (Content) tab

They share one state. When you switch the device in one place, it switches everywhere.

Click the device you want in the Gerät switch. The form area then shows that device.

Note: In the Vorschau (Preview), the device bar is available only in Ausfüllen (Fill out) mode. The Ausdruck (Printout) mode always shows the desktop view. For more, see Create and manage forms.

Set the layout per device

  1. Set the Gerät switch to the device you want.
  2. Open the Design tab.
  3. Set width, spacing, alignment, and the placement and spacing of the label.

The values apply only to the selected device.

Set a custom label for the phone

  1. Select the element in the form area.
  2. Set the Gerät switch to Handy.
  3. Open the Inhalt tab.
  4. Change the text in the Bezeichnung (Label) field, for example from "Date of birth of the patient" to "Birth date".

The desktop text and the tablet text stay unchanged. A note below the text shows where the value comes from:

  • Geerbt von Desktop (Inherited from desktop): The device uses the desktop text.
  • Eigener Text (Own text): The device has a different text.

If you enter the same text on tablet or phone as on desktop, the device counts as inherited again.

Fig. 1On Handy, the label inherits its text and its display from Desktop.

Tip: You can also change the label directly in the form area. The change applies only to the selected device. You edit headings and text per device only in the Inhalt tab.

Set placeholders and texts per device

  1. Select the element in the form area.
  2. Set the Gerät switch to Tablet or Handy.
  3. Open the Inhalt tab.
  4. Change the values you want to differ: label, placeholder, or the content of headings and text.

Without its own value, tablet and phone use the desktop value. The phone takes it directly from desktop, not from tablet.

Show or hide the display per device

  1. Set the Gerät switch to Tablet or Handy.
  2. Open the Inhalt tab.
  3. Under Bezeichnung or Platzhalter (Placeholder), choose Eigene (Own) in the Anzeige (Display) switch Geerbt | Eigene (Inherited | Own).
  4. Use the toggle to show or hide the label or placeholder.

With Geerbt, the device uses the display setting from desktop. The Geerbt von Desktop note refers to the text only. The display has its own switch.

Reset to desktop

  1. Set the Gerät switch to the device that differs from desktop.
  2. Click the reset icon next to the note (tooltip "Auf Desktop zurücksetzen", Reset to desktop).

The icon resets the text and the display of the selected device to the desktop value. It appears only when there is a difference.

Spot differences

Elements with a difference for the selected device carry a small marker with a device icon next to the label or next to the text. When you hover over it, it reads "Abweichung für Tablet" (Difference for tablet) or "Abweichung für Handy" (Difference for phone). If the label is hidden on the device, the marker sits at the top left of the element's frame.

How device texts apply

  • Filling out: The text of the device used for filling out applies. This depends on the screen width: phone, tablet, or desktop.
  • Print and PDF: The desktop text always applies. The same goes for the print preview in the Ausdruck (Printout) tab and for the required-field messages.
  • Automatic labels: Labels that Offisy sets automatically (for example from the assignment field) change only the desktop text. Offisy keeps your own device texts.
  • Templates: Device texts belong to the template. The new form keeps them when you create it from a template.

Common errors

  • The reset icon is missing: If the display is turned off on the device, Offisy hides the note and the reset icon. Set the Anzeige switch to Geerbt to undo the difference.
  • The text stays empty on tablet or phone: If you delete the text on a device completely, it stays empty there. Offisy doesn't replace it with the desktop text. Enter a text or reset the device to desktop.
  • The printout doesn't show the phone text: Print and PDF always use the desktop text. Change the desktop text if the printout should read differently.
