Show fields and sections conditionally Praxis Desk
A condition shows an element in a form only when another answer justifies it — for example, a follow-up question that only makes sense after a specific choice.
Prerequisites
Required license
This feature requires the Formulare add-on for Praxis and Desk.
You set up the condition in the form editor, not while filling out the form. For how to use the editor, see Create and manage forms.
How to do it
- Under Einstellungen (Settings) > Formulare (Forms), click the form name to open it.
- In the form editor, open the element that should only appear under certain circumstances.
- Switch to the Bedingung (Condition) tab in the properties panel.
- Turn on the Bedingt anzeigen (Show conditionally) switch.
- In the first field, pick the Bezugsfeld (reference field). Every other labeled question in the form is available. It doesn't matter which step it's in or whether it comes before or after the current element.
- Choose the matching Vergleich (comparison):
- ist (is) / ist nicht (is not) — compares the answer against a fixed value
- ausgefüllt (filled in) — only checks whether an answer exists at all
- Alter unter (age under) / Alter höchstens (age at most) / Alter mindestens (age at least) — only available when the reference field is the master-data field Geburtsdatum (date of birth).
- A regular date field labeled „Geburtsdatum“ does not enable these comparisons.
- größer als (greater than) / kleiner als (less than) / mindestens (at least) / höchstens (at most) — only available for certain reference fields:
- a date, a Nummerfeld (number field), or a Skala (scale)
- one of the calculation fields BMI, Cholesterin/HDL-Cholesterin (cholesterol/HDL cholesterol), Taille/Hüfte (WHR) (waist/hip ratio), or Taille/Körpergröße (WHtR) (waist/height ratio)
- These comparisons aren't available for Körperoberfläche (BSA) (body surface area).
- Enter the comparison value if needed. If the reference field has fixed answer options, like a dropdown or checkbox, you pick the value from a dropdown instead of typing it.
- Click Bedingung hinzufügen (Add condition) to add another one.
Note: The Bedingung tab is available for every element type — questions, sections, text blocks, and dividers.
Note: If a condition hides a required field, Offisy doesn't ask for an answer to it when submitting. Only once a matching condition makes the field visible again does it count as an outstanding required field.
Below each condition, Offisy shows a plain-language summary, for example: „Wird angezeigt, wenn ‚Allergie‘ gleich ‚ja‘ ist.“ (Shown when 'Allergy' equals 'yes'.)
If an element has more than one condition, you can remove one of them by clicking the trash icon Bedingung entfernen (Remove condition). With only one condition, you remove it instead by turning off the Bedingt anzeigen switch.
For date fields, only the day counts — a time in the field is irrelevant to the comparison.
Note: If the patient hasn't filled in the reference field yet, or the value isn't comparable, the dependent element stays visible. Only an entered, comparable value can hide it.
Set an age condition
For Alter unter, Alter höchstens, and Alter mindestens, Offisy counts from the date of birth, not a fixed calendar year.
- Alter höchstens n applies up to the day before the (n+1)th birthday — so it covers the whole year n. „Alter höchstens 17“ therefore means the same as „Alter unter 18“.
- Alter unter n applies up to and including the day before the nth birthday.
- Alter mindestens n applies starting on the nth birthday itself.
Example: An additional consent should only appear once the patient is an adult. Choose Alter mindestens 18 — the element appears starting on the 18th birthday.
If the patient was born on February 29, Offisy treats February 28 as the anniversary in years without that date.
If the date of birth is missing or the comparison value doesn't contain a valid year, the element stays visible — as described in the note above.
Combine multiple conditions
Once an element has more than one condition, an UND (AND) / ODER (OR) toggle appears above them:
- UND — the element appears only when all conditions are met.
- ODER — the element appears as soon as one condition is met.
The first condition is always labeled „Wenn“ (If). Every following one carries the chosen connector.
Use conditions in repeated sections
If a section can be added multiple times while filling out the form (e.g. „weitere Person hinzufügen“ / add another person), Offisy evaluates the conditions separately for each repetition.
If a condition refers to a field inside the same repetition, only that copy's answer counts. If it refers to a field outside the repetition, the same answer applies to every copy.
Common errors
- Warnhinweis „gelöschtes Feld“ (deleted field): The reference field of a condition was deleted from the form. The condition no longer has any effect — the element stays visible at all times, so that answers already collected don't disappear. Pick a new reference field for the condition or remove it.
- Comparison jumps back to „ist“: If you switch the reference field to one the current comparison no longer fits, Offisy resets the comparison automatically. An example is an age condition on a field that isn't a date of birth. After changing the reference field, always check that the comparison and value still make sense.
- Hinweis „kein anderes Feld“ (no other field): If the form doesn't have another labeled field yet, you can't create a condition. Add the field you want to reference first.
