Invoice Types: Invoice, Fee Note, Receipt, Cancellation and Draft Praxis Kasse Desk
The invoice overview shows several document types. This article explains what they mean.
Definition
- Invoice: The standard billing document sent to a customer.
- Fee note: A billing document in the form of a fee note. The action menu labels this action Fee Note.
- Receipt: A payment receipt. A receipt is created from an invoice or fee note through the Create Receipt from Invoice/Fee Note action. Multiple receipts can belong to one invoice, each with its own number.
- Draft: An invoice that hasn't been invoiced yet. Drafts live on their own Invoice Drafts page, where you can edit or convert them.
- Cancellation / Canceled: A cancellation document. Cancellation marks the document that cancels another one. Canceled marks the document that got canceled.
- Training: A test or training invoice. It doesn't count toward statistics or totals.
What are invoice types used for?
The document type determines which actions are available and how the document factors into statistics.
An invoice or fee note can be paid, sent a reminder for, or canceled. A receipt documents a payment that already happened. A draft isn't a valid billing document yet. It only becomes an invoice or receipt once you convert it.
Training invoices let you test invoice creation without affecting real revenue.
Distinction from payment status
An invoice's status badge shows both the document type and the payment state. Training, Draft, Cancellation, and Canceled describe the document's type or state. Paid and Open, on the other hand, describe whether the payment has come in.
